The third chance

I had two chances to make a leap in my career. I let both go for my family. Each time, I told myself, "Someone like me can create another chance whenever I need one." But the field moved faster than I expected, and there are more people to compete with now. Raising a child leaves me less time to build, while age narrows the door with every year.

I saw none of this coming. Nor did I have anyone around me who understood the reality well enough to warn me. I won't blame my family.
